Murder Mystery Party
An assignment centered around a fictitious fundraising event at Blue River Casino. Students are asked to create: an event box, poster, invitation, t-shirt, and any other additional materials they see fit for this occasion.
De Stijl and Piet Mondrian as Inspiration
Since the assigned theme for this pair of students was inspired by an early 20th century movement and a distinctive style of a Dutch painter, the students chose to emphasize geometric shapes in their illustration, primary colors, and paired those elements with Futura (in various weights).
Vernacular Design and Margo Chase as Inspiration
After researching the assigned influences, the two students working on this assignment created their own fun illustrations, and combined them with a Victorian-era style image of a man's torso. Since Margo Chase was the inspiration for the typographic style, students experimented with "mystery" and "murder" for a more dramatic effect. As the result, the lettering treatment was applied to t-shirts and paired with quirky illustrations.
