Shakespeare in the Park
In this assignment students blindly selected a comedic play from a provided list of four, and were asked to design print and digital promotional materials for a fictitious Shakespeare in the Park event.
A Midsummer Night's Dream
For this design solution, the student decided to create vector illustrations of some of the elements of the play, then arrange them in a frame-like formation, with type placed into the center of the poster. To differentiate the tickets the student chose two separate color stripes—deep blue for Thursday and golden for Saturday's performances.
Social media promotions utilized similar approach an color palette, uniting these materials into a strong visual campaign.
As You Like It
To convey the duality and the love games of the plot line of this play, the student played with the concept of overlaying a stylized anatomical drawing of a heart with two mirroring typefaces: a serif and a sans serif. Lighter warm tones were chosen for the background to contrast the bold red and black of the title of the play.
The color palette and the illustration carried over into two ticket designs (for Thursday and Saturday's performance), and the social media posts got a slighlty inverted treatment—red background with lighter type.
